The definitive keyboard version of Angelus! , the first piece of Années de pèlerinage – Troisième année, was preceded (between 1877 and 1882) by at least five earlier versions, and we publish them here, for the first time, as critical editions from the original manuscripts. We incude a version for string quartet (1880), and a second version (1882) dedicated to Ettore Pinelli. A version with some minor editorial additions and the inclusion of a double bass part was published postumous in 1887. We hope that this new „assortment” will help musicians (and especially pianists) to appreciate the worth of the single musical ideas, as they are repeated or elaborated in the different contexts presented here.
